1-What was your first plant?
My first plant was a common Jade, Crassula ovata. I bought it in a grocery store when I was 9 years old. Shortly after, I moved to Florida from Massachusetts. My grandmother took the plant and cared for it for three years, and when I returned to Massachusetts, I took it back. Unfortunately, shortly after, my dad, who knew nothing about plants, left it out in the cold and rain and it died.

2-How have plants/ plant care changed your life for the better?
Plants have long been my refuge from the ignoble strife of daily life. Whether I have had a bad day, or whether I was coping with the loss of my sister, for example, I have the plants to tend, water, repot, and watch eagerly for new growth and flower buds. They are my oasis is the inhospitable desert of the world.

3-What is your favourite plant?
My favourite plant probably is Jade, my first plant. But I prefer the uncommon or rare varieties and the variegated types. One such is ‘Return of Beauty’. I also love Desert Rose and succulent Euphorbia. Most succulent plants I love.

4-What’s your favourite plant tip?
“When in doubt, don’t water.” The simple truth is, more plants die from over watering than any other cause. But a close second would be, ‘Don’t use a pot without a drain hole.’
5-If you had any plant to give to a special person, which would you choose? Why?
I would probably choose a nice Jade. If you can give them 2 key requirements, they will reward you with beauty for years to come. Those keys are: brightest light with some sun, and infrequent but thorough watering.

🍃 🍃 🍃
I love to grow most any plant, except ferns. My specialty is succulents, with a subspecialty of Jades, Crassula ovata and Crassula arborescens. I like to trade Jade cuttings, and I also occasionally sell cuttings of a few rarer varieties.

Hi there,
I have two Denethor Crassulas which are very unusual in that the leaf takes on a gnarled wooded look.
Both are small. Do you have any cutting, by chance?
Thanks, Grady
