Hannah
Hi fellow plant addicts. My name is Hannah Elliott. My husband Adam and I live in Northern California with our 8 year daughter Kassie. We have 25 chickens, 9 ducks, 2 rabbits, 1 goat, 1 sheep, 2 dogs and 2 cats. My plant addiction started last year when we lost or 4 month old son, Kaleb, to RSV complications. Taking care of plants helped me channel my grief into something that gave life. Now that we live in Siskiyou County, I’m having to see how my plant babies will do in the cold. I became an Admin for HPA almost 8 months ago. This group is amazing because I get to stalk all the cool plants that people post.
Jess
Hi there! I’m Jess. I am from Florida where I live with my 4 cats, 3 rats and a tortoise! I’ve always been an vegetable gardener and had houseplants but my *obsession* with them didn’t begin until I joined Houseplant Addicts a few years back. If I had to pick one favorite plant – I couldn’t! I have so many, the first that come to mind are african violets, hoyas and pothos of all kinds.
Once I volunteered to moderate and later became an admin – I knew there was no turning back! My love of plants and this community has only grown more each day. Learning from each other, sharing our hobby and connecting with like-minded plant lovers is an honor and I am so proud to be part of the Houseplant Addicts team and community!
Outside of the plant world, I am an ordained Pagan Priestess. I perform hand-fastings/last rites, provide counsel/interpretations, lead rituals, offer divination services and in general serve the spiritual needs of those who approach me in my community.
Food is a big part of my life. In 2011 I was diagnosed with celiac disease and cooking at home and coming up with healthy recipes became more important than ever! It’s now one of my favorite things to do! I also enjoy hiking, camping and fishing. I collect antiques and oddities – the creepier and spookier, the better! When it’s time to relax you’ll usually find me curled up watching a true crime documentary, playing video games or listening to podcasts and reading.
Liana
Hello fellow Houseplant Addicts! My name is Liana, and I am a married momma of 3. I live in the beautiful New England area of the U.S in the state of CT. I was not always into houseplants as much as I am today, I was more of an avid outdoor gardener and took pride in my rose and peony bushes and our veggie gardens.
I started collecting houseplants a little over 5 years ago when my health was in a decline. It gave me something to look forward to take care of while my kids were in school during the day. Houseplants provided so much healing and education for me while I was trying to get through each day. My favorites are Hoyas and Sansevierias! Recently I began exploring more tropical varieties such as birds of paradise, monsteras and rhaphidophoras.
I joined Houseplant Addicts 2 years ago and it has been one of my favorite and informative houseplant groups I have ever been apart of. I began volunteering my time as a moderator and now an admin for over a year! Time flies when you’re having fun! I love being apart of a group with like minded individuals who’s curiosity to always learn and take care of beautiful living things is more of passion than a hobby.
Aside from houseplants, I have a fascination with different cultures, traditions and their practices. There is so much beauty through culture that I would love to learn about. I collect books on artists throughout our history (I love Dali!), have a love for home decor, cooking, homesteading, blogging, health, beauty (body modifications included) and up-cycling old furniture.
During my ‘free time’ (a rarity), I love naps, Netflix, board games with my kiddos and hanging with my chickens (who can provide hours of entertainment!) I recently got into woodworking, but I am not that great at it yet!
Rachel E

Hi everyone! I’ve been a garden/plant lover my whole life. It runs many generations deep in my dutch heritage! I have oodles of tattoos, and am an advocate for medical marijuana. I’m lucky enough to live on the West coast of Canada with my husband and we have two teenagers! We very blessed and have a beautiful home with a small chunk of land and two dogs, a cat and fishes/snails.
My passion for houseplants really started when my health started to deteriorate rapidly. Struggling with endometriosis, ulcerative colitis, and interstitial cystitis has left me with periods incapable of leaving the bed (please feel free to reach out to me if you’re newly diagnosed or struggling). I needed an outlet so I had something else to focus on, rather then the pain my body was in. Houseplants allow me to continue my love of gardening indoors, all year round! Joining the HPA team gave me the opportunity to research and write about plants as well as allows me to join in on in the joys you all share with us!
I’m a sucker for plants that need a little extra help, and those plants that others find ugly! I find they’re so beautiful and unique. Some of my favorite indoor plants are begonia, philodendron, croton, alocasia, and philodendrons. My two favorite outdoor gardening climbers are Hops and Nasturtiums! And my favorite flower for my garden is a nice bright orange calendula. My Opa always had it in his garden and he shared with me that during the war in is home country, the color orange was eradicated. But because calendula spread like a weed, it was one hint of orange that those occupying the land were never able to be remove
Stephanie
Hi! My name is Stephanie and I am single mom to a teen with Autism. Besides plants, I enjoy volunteering, fitness, health, wellness, essential oils, blogging, beauty, and watching my favorite shows (The Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, Manifest, 911, This is Us, Chicago Fire, The Masked Singer, and so many more. I really could go on and on, but you get the gist).
I remember receiving my first plant. A former teacher gifted me a mini african violet. At the time, I had no idea what it was nor did I know how to care for it. My second plant, was given to me by a friend. She gave me one of her spider plant babies. After that, I knew I was hooked. Over the years, I’ve had plants all over our home.
I started Houseplant Addicts because I wanted to know I wasn’t the only one out there. The only one “addicted” to houseplants. I’ve always admired plants you see in the background of movies and shows. When we went to the store, I always had to stop by the garden center, “just to look and see what they have.”
Ley
Hello, I’m Ley! I live in western North Carolina. I married my best friend, Gregg, and we have two adult sons (ages 22 and 20). We keep two rescue dogs and four freshwater shrimp as pets. We also feed and help to maintain our local wildlife, including a herd of anywhere from 18 to 24 whitetail deer. They often feel like pets as well, though they are not, and we call them in for feeding every evening.
My journey with houseplants began as a hobby when I quit work to usher my younger son through high school. I soon after found myself without children to rush to school and opened my own cottage business. Before this, I was an avid outdoor gardener and our little family has grown part of our food since building our home in 2010. Currently, my favorite houseplants are Hoyas. I love how resilient and lush they are, with very little work.
I joined Houseplant Addicts and become a Moderator, then later an Admin, during 2020. Joining the team has helped by giving me knowledge and confidence with my plants, with an added bonus of friendships outside of my usual circle.
Besides plants, my hobbies include collecting old books and antiques. I also collect bones, both human and animal. I enjoy thrifting and have an eclectic style throughout my home.
