For years, I was using liquid plant food. I don’t know if it really helped my plants thrive but I do think it helped keep them healthy. When we started our Houseplant Addicts Network, I had no idea we would make such amazing friends and build a family and community!

Being a part of our community, I have learned so much! People share their favorite plants, favorite potting soil, fertilizer, plant food, and more! It’s amazing to learn from others!
If you are looking for a community and a supportive place, consider joining our groups. If you ever experience rude people — yes, it does happen, please report them. Please let the admin and moderator team know. We can’t do anything if we don’t know about it.
I had no idea about fish emulsion until I heard of others using it. I was curious. I researched. I read the customer reviews. This gave me a chance to discover a few brands and consider each one.
Being a single mom, I am on a budget. Just by chance, I found a brand of fish emulsion that caught my eye. While it doesn’t have the “fancy packaging,” I read the reviews and decided to buy it.
Natural and Organic

I was drawn to fish emulsion because it is organic and natural! All these years, I was using a synthetic product to feed my plants! I decided it was time to switch to organic and natural fertilizer! I found GS Plant Foods Organic Fish and Kelp Blend. As you can see, it doesn’t have a fancy label. But, I am not looking for a name brand, I am looking for results!
If the Organic Fish and Kelp Blend is not available. GS Plant Foods also offers Organic Liquid Fish and Liquid Kelp Extract Seaweed.
My bottle of Organic Fish and Kelp Blend arrived safely and without any spills or mess. Next came the toughest part. Many of the customer comments mentioned trying to open the seal. One said he needed to use pliers, others said it was tough to open without spilling. They also warned about it spraying all over! So, I let it sit for a bit before I tried to open.

However, when I opened the cap, there was a seal! I was so relieved I wouldn’t need pliers or pull a plastic ring to try to remove the seal!
I was able to open the bottle without any spills! I live in a condo and I don’t have my own yard! I did consider opening the bottle outside just in case. However, I was able to open the seal without any issues!
Same Day Use
Many recommend using the fish emulsion fertilizer mixture the same day you mix it.
Why?
Because it stinks!
It is best NOT to let it sit! Use it all on the same day.
All my plants are indoors as well. So, I am trying to figure out the perfect amount of water to make each time I water.

Water
I’ve been saving gallon plastic containers to help store water. I use regular faucet water and let it sit overnight or longer before I use it.
Your water preference is up to you. Many use distilled water, others buy filtered water, or people filter their water at home.
Let’s get to it!
How To Use Fish Emulsion Fertilizer With Houseplants
Gather your water containers.
Follow the directions according to your fish emulsion product on how much to mix.
I add the recommended amount of fish emulsion. I then gently shake the container to allow the fish emulsion to mix thoroughly!
Since carrying the gallon container is a bit heavy for me, I have a second empty container and pour about half of the fish emulsion fertilizer mixture into it. Also, I like to fill a second container to use to water my plants around the house because I was always splashing and spilling all over! What a mess!
