Lavender is a fragrant herb that has been used for centuries in perfumes, soaps, candles, and sachets. However, the fragrant oil of lavender can also be used as an herbal therapy to calm anxiety or promote sleep. The fragrant properties of this plant are obtained from the flowers. While dried lavender may be used as a home remedy, essential oils of lavender should never be taken orally. Uses for lavender around the home allow you to add a natural scent!
As a special needs mom, I love diffusing lavender essential oil with my son. It’s perfect to use when he’s about to have a meltdown or in the evening when he’s too excited for sleep! Overall, it’s a great way to calm our mood before bedtime or unwind from a long day.

“Help! I have mushrooms growing in my soil!”
Mushrooms growing in your soil can be a scary sight. Have you seen those science fiction movies where the alien fungus starts to take over everything? Actually, that is very similar to what mushrooms can do. They are a fungus which means they feed on decaying organic materials. This is why it is easy for them to grow in the soil and take over.
What do mushrooms growing in my houseplants mean?
Mushrooms will start from any decaying matter in your soil such as an old piece of dead lumber, or even some rock such as granite. These mushrooms will start by breaking down the decaying matter in your soil. They are just like any other fungus except that they can grow very large. The biggest mushrooms ever recorded were over 500 pounds. Mushrooms will keep growing and spreading until they come across something else to eat or run out of food in your soil, which is probably not going to happen if you have a lot of organic matter in the soil.
